It All Started With Lucy

We didn't plan on becoming chicken farmers. That decision was made for us by a single determined hen named Lucy.

One afternoon Lucy walked two houses down from her family's yard, crossed the road, made her way across our acreage — our house sets back from the road — then climbed six steps up onto our covered front deck and looked straight through the window. Our six Maine Coon cats spotted her first.

"She did that classic chicken side-eye right through the glass — like she was sizing us up and had already decided we'd do just fine."

My wife Chelle was absolutely certain I had finally broken down and bought her a chicken. I had not. But I never miss a chance to make Chelle smile — so that Christmas I surprised her with a brand new coop with a big red bow on top. The next spring we went to pick up four chicks. We came home with twenty-four. And we never looked back.

It Starts With the Ground They Walk On

We're not certified organic. We're something we think matters more — honest about exactly how these birds are raised, on land we've never put a chemical on.

Nothing goes on this land

No fertilizer. No pesticides. No weed killer. Not on one acre of the forty-two, not ever. We have no neighbors and nobody around us — nothing drifts in from anywhere else.

No antibiotics. Ever.

Not in any way, shape, or form. These are truly natural birds, and we can tell you everything about every one of them.

We plant to move them

Grasses, clover, and forage planted on purpose — and placed to pull the flock off the coops, into the woods and out across the fields. They walk the whole forty-two acres and eat something different everywhere they go.

We sprout their feed

We sprout grain and feed them the sprouts. We grow food specifically for them. They get our table scraps. And they forage everything the land gives them on top of that.

Hatched here. Raised here.

Our own hatching house, and a separate building used for nothing but raising birds up to the teenager stage. Eight coops. Year round — not a spring-only chick seller.

Never in the mail

We do not ship live birds. Not chicks, not hens, not roosters. You pick them up, or we drive them to you. That's not a policy — that's the whole point.

ProvenanceUnknownWe know everything about every bird

People tell us they're blown away by how healthy and how big our birds are. And people who buy our eggs — after comparing them to eggs from other farmers — don't go back.

If It Doesn't Work Out, You're Not Stuck

Anybody can sell you a chick. We'd rather you still be glad you called us a year from now — so we built our whole setup around what happens after you get home.

Roosters can always come home

We care about our birds — all of them, at every stage of their lives. We care about how this goes for you, too.

That's why every rooster you get from us can come back to us. We built a separate house and run just for the boys.

If you bought straight run and ended up with roosters you can't keep, bring them home. No refund — straight run is priced the way it is because it's straight run — but they've always got a place here.

We buy the coop back

Life changes. If it isn't working out inside the first year, we'll buy your coop back at 70% of what you paid.

CoopYou paidBack to you
Small$500$350
Medium$700$490
Large$900$630

Within 12 months. After that we'll still talk — it's just at our discretion. Subject to inspection; you deliver it or we'll come get it for a fee.

Or trade up when it's going well

Started small and now you want more birds? Trade your coop in against a new one and we'll credit you more than the buyback — because we'd rather see you grow than see you leave.

Under 1 yr$375$525$675
1–2 yrs$250$350$450
2–3 yrs$125$175$225
3 yrs +$100$100$100

Toward a new coop from us. There's no expiry — bring us a five-year-old coop and it's still worth $100 against a new build.

And your flock can come home too

If it's not working out, you're not left standing in the backyard trying to figure out what to do with your birds. Bring them back. They were born here — they'll be looked after here.

Hens — what we can offer depends on the bird: breed, age, condition, how long she's been gone. We'll look at them together and be fair about it.

Roosters — always welcome back, always cared for. We don't buy roosters back. That's a home we're offering, not a purchase.

You get our actual cell numbers

Buy a setup from us and you get Mark and Chelle's personal phone numbers. Not a support ticket. Not a chatbot. Us.

Text or call, within reason, and you've got two people with real experience behind your chickening future. It matters to us that this goes well for you.

Brand new to this?

Then you're exactly who we built all of this for. If you live in the suburbs and you want four chickens in the backyard, call us.

We'll set you up right — the coop, the birds, and somebody to text when you're not sure. And if it doesn't work out, it's going to cost you a whole lot less than it would have if you'd bought them at the farm store.
